June Recap and July Plans

Happy July!

I achieved a lot in June, and I'm excited for my language studies in July, which will be guided by a new language challenge, 75 Fluent.

Mid-Year Check-In

Since we are now at midyear, it’s a good time to check in on the goals I set at the start of the year.

I hadn’t looked at my project board until recently, and I was surprised to see how many goals I’d already completed. One goal that surprised me the most was A4: 10% of total reads for the year in my target languages.

Technically, I can’t mark it as complete until the end of the year, but I was curious what my progress was. So far, 10 of the 32 books I’ve read this year have been in French, which works out to 31%!

The goals I haven’t started yet are still very achievable by the end of the year, as long as I don’t forget about them. The only two that may not be completed are B3 and E2, since they depend on whether I take and pass the JLPT exams.

June Recap

🥐 French

I finished reading L’Étranger this month!

At the pace I was reading, I wasn’t expecting to finish it yet, but I found some motivation near the end of the month and ended up reading the rest of the book.

Original French Plans for June:

• ✅ Start part 2 of L’Étranger

• ✅ Review vocabulary from part 1 of L’Étranger

My June goals were simple, and I ended up doing even more than I planned. Not only did I start Part 2 of L'Étranger, but I finished the entire book. By the end, I had saved more than 700 new words from it. I’m slowly learning and reviewing them now.

July Plans for French:

• Study French for at least 1 hour each day

• Read 2 chapters of Le Petit Prince each week

• Read Mon Mari

• Continue reviewing vocabulary from part 1 of L’Étranger

• Reach 3,600 known words on Migaku.

Since I'm participating in 75 Fluent, I'm doing a variety of activities every day to learn French. I’m using a lot of different resources, so instead of setting a deadline to finish them, I’m going with the flow.

🍜 Japanese

June marked the end of my Japanese classes. I’m really happy I stuck with them until the end. To finish the course, we had to prepare and deliver a presentation, which became my main project for the month. Now I’m looking forward to returning to independent study.

Original Japanese June Plans:

• ✅ Work on the Japanese presentation script and PowerPoint

• ✅ Give my Japanese presentation

• ✅ Complete lesson 3/14 of the Migaku Japanese Academy 1 Course

July Plans for Japanese:

• Start Chapter 4 of Migaku Japanese Academy.

• Increase known words on Migaku (currently 170)

• Read short stories on YomuYomu.

🧧 Mandarin

I had a lot of fun at the beginning of the month adding all of my known Mandarin words to Migaku.

June ended up being busier than I expected because of travel and finishing my Japanese classes, so Mandarin didn’t get as much attention as I had hoped.

Original Mandarin June Plans:

• ✅ Input known words into Migaku (2,617 → 2676)

• ➖ Watch videos or dramas to ease back into the language

July Plans for Mandarin:

• Find a resource to use to study Mandarin

• Increase Migaku vocabulary

The 50 Coffee Breaks series now has a Mandarin book, and I'm thinking of using it as the resource that helps me ease back into studying the language.

📅 July Plans

For July, my main goal is simply to have fun with my languages.

Thanks to 75 Fluent, I’m tracking both my French study time and the activities I complete each day. I always enjoy looking back on my study logs, and sharing them also gives you a chance to discover the resources I’m using.
